Stars of stage and screen turn out for Capgemini-sponsored eco-ball

It was a double celebration as Capgemini celebrated its platinum patronage with The Prince’s Trust having raised over £1,000,000 in three years and a special 'thank you' video message from HRH The Prince of Wales to guests and Capgemini.

The award winning Black and White Ball made a glittering return to Glasgow this weekend (Saturday 18 June) and raised over £30,000 for youth charity The Prince’s Trust [1].

Actor Robert Cavanah (Lara Croft and Sahara) joined MC Des Clarke and Britain’s Got Talent star Edward Reid as well as cast members from RiverCity to dine in style at the Grand Central Hotel to raise vital funds for youth charity The Prince’s Trust Scotland.

Now in its fourth year, the Black and White Ball continues to help support the work of The Prince’s Trust Scotland whilst also highlighting that the need for environmental change is black and white.

Stewart Stevenson, Minister for Environment and Climate Change attended and spoke at the Capgemini sponsored event along with a list of guests drawn from Scotland’s business, political and cultural arenas.  Guests were greeted by a green carpet and encouraged to wear vintage couture.

Environment Minister Stewart Stevenson said:
“I was privileged to speak at this year’s Capgemini Black and White Ball – the UK’s only green carpet event. Not only does this ball raise awareness of vital environmental issues, it also raises money for The Prince’s Trust, helping Scotland’s disadvantaged young people.

“Scotland is already halfway to its target of a 42 per cent cut in emissions by 2020 but we must do more which is why we have set a new target of 100 per cent of electricity from renewables by 2020. This goes hand in hand with our target to cut energy consumption by 12 per cent, also by 2020. For the sake of our planet, and all our tomorrows, it’s vital that everyone works together to meet these ambitious targets.”

There were a number of ‘money can’t buy’ auction prizes up for grabs including, a specially commissioned oil painting by John Damari, a one-to-one consultation with renowned designer Spencer Railton plus bespoke couture corset, a helicopter trip for two from Prestonfield to The Fairmont Hotel, St Andrew’s for lunch, a personally signed Harry Potter book from JK Rowling and week in the penthouse suite at the exclusive five-star Penina Hotel, Portugal.

A stunning ladies white gold diamond open cross pendant and chain pace set also featured amongst the evening’s glittering prizes with 64 brilliant cut diamonds weighing 0.26ct, with four princess cut diamonds donated by Rox.

The evening also celebrated the success of young people supported by The Prince’s Trust, which delivers a range of personal development and vocational training programmes designed to help support young people to overcome the barriers to success and to develop their talents.  The Trust’s Get Started in the Environment programme has been particularly successful in helping young people re-engage with training, by giving them the opportunity to work on a variety of environmental and conservation activities.

Working closely with the Grand Central Hotel and its suppliers, careful consideration was given to ensuring all aspects of the ball from food and wine to transport home were sympathetic to the environment and that the menu comprises locally sourced, organic ingredients.

The Prince’s Trust Scotland has helped more than 60,000 young people gain skills and find work since 1976 and continues to support 100 more young people every day across the UK.  The Trust works with 13 to 25 year olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law.
