The Scottish Government’s national eProcurement service, eProcurementScotl@nd (ePS), won the top award last night (22nd January 2008) in the UK’s eGovernment National Awards 2007, Best Shared Service category, in a glittering ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
The awards are the UK ‘s highest level commendation for the best e-Government and technology-driven services - services which, through innovative online delivery or IT implementation, have positively transformed the lives of citizens, local communities, business and stakeholder groups.
Since its launch in 2002 the ePS service has delivered significant efficiencies and cost savings to an expanding user base currently numbering some 80 organisations across the Scottish public sector, and to the thousands of companies supplying goods and services to them.
Capgemini UK plc, with their subcontractor Elcom, are the service providers for this award winning service and have played a key role in its development and rapid adoption by public sector bodies across Scotland.
Commenting on this year’s awards, Prime Minister the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP said: ‘Today’s citizens are quite rightly demanding more and technology has the capacity to provide it, breaking new ground and helping to achieve new goals. It enables us to try things out and, ultimately, to do things differently.’

However, once again the entry from ePS overwhelmed the panel of judges who agreed that no other eProcurement service in the UK had achieved this level of success. This is sharing services at its best.’
