Capgemini UK plc has signed a six-year IT outsourcing contract valued at £23 million with UK-based SHL, world leaders in the science of psychometrics in the workplace. Capgemini will maintain and transform the whole IT infrastructure at SHL and provide support for some 1,000 desktop users at SHL’s 35 locations across the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific.
The transition to Capgemini, which begins immediately, involves the transfer of IT from three data centres in the US and Europe to a single Capgemini secure data centre located in Bristol, England with user and technical support based at Capgemini service centres in Katowice, Poland and Mumbai, India respectively and back-up support from Rotherham, England. It is expected that some 20 SHL IT staff will transfer to Capgemini under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE).

Capgemini won the contract against rival bids from other leading multinational IT companies. A key factor in its success was its Rightshore® strategy which aims to deploy the best mix of resources from Capgemini’s global network of facilities in order to deliver optimum service, quality and cost-effectiveness to each client.
Another key factor was Capgemini’s recommendation of virtualisation technology, involving techniques and software that transform system utilisation and permit improved sharing of hardware resources. Capgemini will deploy its own implementation of virtual server technology, known as Service-Orientated Infrastructure Delivery (SOID), to give SHL improved availability and service, better control, greater flexibility and reduced costs.
