Ofcom selects Capgemini as its Information Systems partner

| Press release

UK communications regulator Ofcom has selected Capgemini UK plc (“Capgemini”) as its preferred bidder for an Information Systems contract which includes integrating or replacing the organisation’s legacy systems inherited from previous regulators.

Capgemini will run Ofcom’s IT systems for a five-year period from 1st February 2006 under the terms of a contract expected to be worth a total of approximately £25 million. Ofcom aims to sign the contract by mid-December 2005.

Capgemini is expected to support the transformation of the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of Ofcom’s IT infrastructure and core applications by replacing around 50 individual IT applications with new, integrated technology.

That transformation will involve implementation of new CRM systems from Siebel and financial, HR and procurement applications from SAP. Capgemini will be prime contractor for these projects and will also work in close collaboration with Ofcom management on an associated programme of business change.

Ofcom Chief Technology Officer, Peter Ingram, said: “When Ofcom began operations two years ago we chose not to seek to integrate the many differing legacy IT systems inherited from our predecessors until we had fully identified the organisation’s long-term future needs.”

He added: “Establishing common systems for all of our critical functions will lead to greater effectiveness and an improvement in the quality of the services we deliver to stakeholders.”

Capgemini was selected in preference to two other shortlisted bids on the strength of its collaborative approach, its convincing and detailed solution to Ofcom’s end-to-end requirements, its existing global alliances with technology leaders such as SAP and Siebel, and a track record in transformational outsourcing that was supported by enthusiastic customer references.

Mark Porter, UK Chief Executive Officer of Capgemini, said: ”Ofcom plays a vital role in regulating an industry that everyone in the UK depends upon, and we are delighted that we have been selected to help effect their transformation into a truly service-oriented organisation.”

Lis Sheppard, Business Development Director at Capgemini, who led the bid team, said: “There is an excellent cultural fit between Ofcom and Capgemini, with both organisations committed to excellence in IT and customer service.”
