Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, was today named winner of Britain’s top award for responsible business practice in the Business in the Community Awards 2004.
Known as ‘the Big Tick’, the award was made for the company’s involvement in two nationwide schemes aimed at improving education for children and young people. In the ‘Partners in Leadership’ programme, Capgemini senior managers and consultants work with head teachers to provide free help and advice on issues of management, organisation and budgeting, while in the ‘Time to Read’ scheme, company staff at all levels give up their own time to help children overcome reading difficulties.
The award was made following a scrutiny by the Business in the Community judges of the quality of the management processes deployed by Capgemini in its community programmes, of the level and quality of resources committed to those programmes by the company, and the impact of the programmes at grass roots level on the communities and individuals involved.
Some 235 senior staff at Capgemini, up to and including the UK Executive Board have participated in ‘Partners in Leadership’, making the company the biggest contributor of resources to the programme. More than 250 Capgemini staff regularly take part in the ‘Time to Read’ scheme at schools across Britain.

The Business in the Community Awards 2004 were announced by Stephen Timms MP, Minister of State for Energy and E-Commerce, at an event today at Lancaster House, London, hosted by the Department for Trade and Industry.
