New Higher Apprenticeship and Sponsored Degree Scheme for Birmingham

| News alert
New scheme offers degrees without debts plus career opportunities with a global IT leader.

Capgemini UK plc is launching a new higher apprenticeship scheme in software engineering for the Birmingham area and based at its offices in Aston. The company is part of the Capgemini Group, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, and is seeking 12 young people to start the five-year apprenticeships from next January.

The apprentices will study for a BSc degree in Computing and IT Practice from the Open University as part of the course, sponsored by Capgemini. They will also work on real-life assignments and live projects for Capgemini clients.

During the five-year course they will also gain relevant diploma and certification qualifications. The apprentices will receive a highly competitive salary. They will become full-time Capgemini employees after a satisfactory 12-month probationary period and it is expected that the majority will pursue long-term careers with the company after completion of their apprenticeship.

Christine Hodgson, Chairman of Capgemini UK, said: ‘More and more young people want to earn while they learn, gain degrees without incurring a burden of debt, and get started on the career ladder. This is what our higher apprenticeship scheme offers, and I am delighted that we are now extending it to a city which has already provided our company with some of its best and brightest talent.’

The new scheme follows the announcement earlier this year of schemes covering the North of England and London, and brings the number of new apprenticeship places announced at Capgemini in 2011 up to 48. Capgemini has run apprenticeships in the UK since 2008.
