Capgemini Schools Director wins Business in the Community award

| News alert
The Director of Capgemini UK’s Schools Outreach Programme, Michelle Perkins, has been named a Game Changer by Business in the Community, in recognition of her work to encourage links between education and businesses.

As a charity that promotes responsible organisational practices, Business in the Community encourages its members to tackle community issues where they can make a real difference. The Game Changer award recognises those individuals who have integrated this way of working into their own organisations – in many cases inspiring others to follow their lead.

Created in 2010, Capgemini’s Schools Outreach Programme works closely with schools to help them nurture the talent, skills and creativity of young people in the UK. A leading initiative is its work experience programme for 15-18 year olds, which gives young people exposure to a wide range of business careers and teaches them some of the skills needed to get ahead, such as communications and project management. As Director, Michelle Perkins has led the programme from the beginning, growing it from a fledgling initiative, to an integral part of Capgemini UK.

In naming Michelle a Game Changer, BITC said: “Michelle is truly an excellent example of how individual passion can bring about significant change in an organisation.
Real change within an organisation can only happen when individuals drive it,” added Christine Hodgson, Capgemini UK Chairman. “I fully support this award and I’m delighted that the effort of a valued member of the Capgemini team is being recognised in this way.

Michelle said: “Our Schools Programme is all about supporting young people as they take their first steps into the working world. We encourage employees at all levels to get involved, so the students have access to a wide range of skills and viewpoints.

She concluded: “I’m privileged to work with some wonderful young people and their teachers and I’ve received some great support from my colleagues to deliver innovative programmes.
