Taking the apprenticeship path

Bryony White, Apprentice Programme ManagerMarch 12 marked the launch of the new Capgemini Degree Apprenticeships with Aston University. Our GAP programme team, along with other key stakeholders, attended a launch event in Aston to provide an insight into the new programme and what it’s all about. To coincide with this, we asked Apprenticeship Programme Manager, Bryony White about the new programme.

What is a Degree Apprenticeship?

Bryony White:  A Degree Apprenticeship is a four-and-a-half year blended programme, where you will gain on hand technical experience as an Apprentice, as well as earning a full B.Sc. degree by the end of the programme. Capgemini has run a programme very similar to this for the last three years, but this provides us with an opportunity to streamline our outstanding Higher Apprentice and Undergraduate programmes and add even greater value.

What’s on offer?

BW:  An industry-relevant full B.Sc. Honours Degree, packed with invaluable technical and business training and on the job experience gained along the way. Those involved will benefit from high quality undergraduate teaching by Aston University, and the chance to gain experience working on some exciting client projects as a mobile consultant.

Why should people choose this instead of university?

BW:  This programme gives Degree Apprentices with the opportunity to drive their careers from day one, progress quickly through the company and accelerate their development, while earning a competitive salary. The degree is fully sponsored, so they will graduate with no student debt: something that is proving to be popular with many students wanting the degree qualification but without the money worries.

How long does the Degree Apprenticeship last?

BW:  The Degree Apprenticeship is a four-and-a-half to five-year course, starting with a three-month Accelerated Learning Environment to kick-start the Degree Apprentices’ careers with us and get straight out on real project work.

How many people will be taken on?

BW:  Capgemini is planning to take on 65 Degree Apprentices in the first year alone, a figure much higher than any other employer.

When will they start?

BW:  September 2015
