Capgemini pedals to success

Category : People

On a chilly Sunday morning in October, 320+ Capgemini employees, friends, family and clients made their way to The Mall in Central London to take on the 45 or 90 mile Palace to Palace (P2P) cycle event in aid of The Prince’s Trust.

2016 marks our 6th year of participation in the ride which we do in support of our charity partner The Prince’s Trust. The Trust will use the money raised to continue their work with young disadvantaged people in the UK and get them into work, training or education?

We’re proud to say that with 329 of us signing up, Team Capgemini was the biggest corporate team ever assembled to take on Palace to Palace. Employees demonstrated the ‘Power of One’, cycling alongside clients such as box, Heathrow, Rolls-Royce plc, Royal Mail Group, Nationwide, Zurich, Burberry, Attenda, John Lewis and DocuSign.

It was also a true cross-organisation effort. Leading the Capgemini peloton were VPs Paul Margetts (Apps UK, CEO), Mark Devonshire (Infra Cloud Services), Rachel Charlton (Capgemini Consulting), Rory Burghes (Core Services) and Nigel Walsh (Financial Services), while a strong graduate contingency also boosted us.

As well as a record number of clients taking part, we also welcomed teams from the Highlands, Telford, Worthing and West Wales.

Comments from the day

"Palace to Palace this year was an unforgettable experience and perfectly organised by our marvellous support team. It was wonderful catching up with and meeting so many inspirational colleagues from across the entire organisation while raising funds for a vital cause. To put the cherry on the cake, it didn’t even rain!" Nahla Nasser, Oracle Applications Consultant, Apps UK

“A really fun day. Capgemini showed great team and community spirit with the most riders of any organisation and it was all done to raise money for those less privileged. The organisation was brilliant, with even the sun shining all day!!” Mark Devonshire, VP Cloud Infra

“I’m very proud to see Team Capgemini with so many willing and smiling faces taking part as a true team in support of such an important cause. Not only do we transform business,  but we are on track to break £40k in raised funds which will transform lives – thank you to everyone”

Bethan Richmond, UK Community Programme Manager

As we watched a sea of Capgemini jerseys make their way over the start line, we headed off to Windsor racecourse in preparation for their safe arrival. UK Chairman, Christine Hogdson was at the end village ready to welcome every member of our team across the finish line. From there the riders made their way to the Club 200 marquee where they were joined by friends and family and were able to tuck into gourmet burgers, salmon and strawberries and cream.  Even the sun was shining; the day couldn’t have been more perfect!

Christine Hodgson commented “I am incredibly proud of Team Capgemini – we have raised an exceptional amount of money for The Prince’s Trust helping to give disadvantaged young people the support they need for the future. Well done to everyone involved, it was a great day”.

A special mention goes to Andrea Robertson Security Consultant who was our only female member of the Ultra team. Not only did she travel all the way from the Highlands to take part: she also took on the gruelling 90-mile route! Andrea said "It was so tough. I knew it would be difficult and I wasn't wrong! A real challenge to keep going at times. The organisation of the whole event was amazing - I thoroughly recommend it!"

We took over the Capgeminippl twitter feed for the day and we even got a shout out from The Prince's Trust itself commenting on our social media activity! If you want to follow the day’s events check out our Capgeminippl twitter feed. Simply search on @palace2Palace #TeamCapgemini and #princestrust.

A huge "thank you" goes out to the riders and to everyone who gave up their Sunday to give their support and encouragement.
