As 2015 comes to a close, I spoke to Paul Hammond, VP of Infrastructure Services at Capgemini, to find out what 2016 holds for CIOs. Here’s what he told me:
“The boundaries between the enterprise and consumer world will become even more blurred in 2016 as the next generation enters the workplace. There is a growing expectation that everything from timesheets to expenses should be easy and simple, such as in the form of an app, and that they should be available all of the time from anywhere. Very little is now turned off, and IT teams must make sure its systems of records - which have been running on the same infrastructure for many years - are fit for new systems of access, such as mobile devices and new apps being written.
“In recent years, businesses have had to expand internet capability to meet the demands of our application-centric world, but this has been very much on a reactive basis. In 2016, IT departments will get closer to developing the infrastructure that allows everything from work to social to be securely opened on any device. It’s crucial we get this right before we can even start to think about meeting the demands of the so-called ‘fourth platform’ where we start to innovate in the material world.”
