Did you know, for instance, that:
- We have reduced the amount of waste we send to landfill by 95%
- Our data centres are 25% more energy efficient today than they were in 2008
- We have reduced our carbon footprint (from non-data centre activities) by 28% since 2008
- We achieved an overall 22% reduction in annual travel emissions since 2008
- We were recognised for the third year running as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute
- Through our Schools Outreach Programme, we interacted with 7,000 students across the UK
- 2014 saw the introduction of Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, an environmental charity, to our Community Programme
- We achieved gold rating and is listed as one of the Top 10 private sector organisations for gender diversity in the Opportunity Now Benchmark; in 2014, 26.8% of the average headcount was female
- We achieved Positive About Disabled People Two Ticks accreditation for sixth year running
These are just some of last year’s successes. Excitingly, this year we have also launched a new set of environmental objectives that will ensure that we not only continue reducing our own carbon footprint (something we have been steadily doing over the last few years), but that we take steps to reduce the carbon emissions of our clients, suppliers and employees too. In fact, we’ve committed to reducing carbon emissions within our ecosystem by three times our own emissions by the end of 2017.
This will mean:
- using our technology and business process expertise to help our clients cut their carbon
- collaborating with suppliers and business partners to reduce emissions within our supply network
- helping our people to reduce their carbon footprint at home
This is no small task: if our own emissions remained stable, it would mean reducing around 150,000 tonnes of CO2, the equivalent of the emissions of 121,000 return flights from London to New York.
