Electrical sector set to boom as Brits gripped by football fever

Capgemini and IMRG released the May results of the IMRG Capgemini eRetail Sales Index this week, which revealed that approximately £8.2 billion was spent online last month, a 20% increase on last year. You can read the full press release by following this link.

The news also included a prediction based around the World Cup; thanks to the current football fever gripping the country, we could expect to see an impressive 30% increase in sales of electrical items this month. However, this does depend on how far England progress through the tournament.

The news was picked up by a host of retail, electrical and consultancy titles, including, Internet Retailing, Retail Times, Essential Retail,  Retail Technology, Consultant News, What Hi Fi, Innovative Electrical Retailing, Business Finance Magazine and Retail Gazette.

This month it has illustrated just how influential large sporting events can have on the retail sector and how World Cup fever has well and truly gripped the UK.  This has resulted in an increase in the sale of electrical items which will have grown further in the first half of the month. Just how long that growth continues may ell depend on how far England progress through the tournament as patriotic fans invest in bigger and better TVs to cheer on their team.”
