Capgemini UK Chairman Christine Hodgson on attracting the right junior talent

Christine Hodgson, Capgemini UK Executive ChairmanThis week Christine Hodgson, Capgemini UK Chairman was featured on the front cover of changeboard’s special edition on future talent. Christine put the spotlight on Capgemini’s mission to champion the progress of women in the IT sector, boost interaction with schools and broaden recruitment horizons amongst junior talent.

In a sector that anticipates there will be 900,000 vacancies by 2015, Christine Hodgson is working hard to implement initiatives to reach out to young people and girls in particular. She has made interactions with schools a priority - Capgemini UK has managed 5,000 in the last 12 months – to create long lasting impacts and change young people’s perceptions of the work place and of the IT sector, especially amongst girls.

Changing young people's perceptions of the IT sectorTo help demystify the world of work Christine champions the Work Inspiration Initiative, a national employer-led campaign that targets young people to make their first experience in the workplace meaningful. Capgemini is opening its recruitment channels and looking beyond graduates to find talent. With university fees rocketing Christine is attempting to educate society on the benefits of vocational education, through apprenticeships.

Capgemini is among the first in the UK ICT sector to offer sponsored degrees, and in March 2014 the first intake of 22 higher apprentices graduated. Half of Capgemini's graduate, apprentice and placement (GAP) intake is now comprised of apprentices. Capgemini is also showing its commitment to overcoming the national youth unemployment crisis by committing to Generation Talent, a BITC scheme that encourages employers to ensure 25% of their recruits are aged 16-24.
