Get ready for a £10 billion Clickmas shopping spree

Consumer spend with online retailers is forecast to reach £10.8bn in December this year according to analysis carried out by the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, which is the first time it will have exceeded £10bn - see the full press release here.

The news was very well received by the national and the trade media – the results were complemented by figures released by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) which revealed there has been a boost in pre-Christmas online spending compared to last year. The story was covered in a number of major national and regional newspapers, including the Daily Telegraph (both online and in print), as well as the Guardian, City AM and Metro (online and in print). The Guardian piece uses the Capgemini and IMRG forecast to lead an in-depth article discussing online Christmas shopping, supported by figures from the BRC and KPMG.

The Daily Telegraph’s Consumer Affairs Correspondent, Steve Hawkes, wrote a similarly long piece around the current boom in e-retail, and includes a quote from Capgemini’s Vice President, Consumer Products and Retail, Chris Webster.

Chris Webster, head of retail consulting at Capgemini said: "The impact of mobile devices in 2013 has been very significant. Improved mobile sites have made shopping on the move much easier."

The news was also covered in a number of the UK’s leading retail and IT trade media, including V3, Retail Times, Internet Retailing, Tech Investor News, My Retail Media, and Retail Week.
