Building a motivated and loyal workforce: Capgemini highly commended in the National Apprenticeship Awards 2013

Last night Capgemini UK was at the National Apprenticeship Awards 2013 shortlisted in the Macro Employer of the Year category. While we didn't win the top prize, we are very proud to be highly commended as a leading large UK employer for apprentices.

Capgemini has enjoyed the benefits of employing apprentices since 2005, and currently we have more than 250 apprentices across the UK. We started to offer higher apprenticeships in software development in 2011, with the help of the National Apprenticeship Service.

Of our award last night Anouska Ramsay, Head of Talent, Capgemini, said: "Gaining recognition of our apprenticeships at national level is fantastic news for both our apprentices and for Capgemini, it is an achievement we are incredibly proud of. Through this commendation we can continue to  raise the profile of the great career opportunities that IT apprenticeships provide both for Capgemini and across the UK IT Sector."

James Gee and Jack Eker were regional Higher Apprentice of the Year winners in the West Midlands and South Central regions respectively.

Becky Plant, Capgemini Graduate and Apprentice Programmes Lead, added: "I am so incredibly proud of the journey that Capgemini has started with apprenticeships. The way in which our business has embraced, adapted and taken the innovation and energy that apprentices bring to Capgemini is a credit."

Apprenticeships have become such a significant part of our junior talent programme that 2013 was the first year that the we recruited equal numbers of apprentices and graduates. Capgemini has seen a 300% rise in applications. Our forecast for 2014 shows a marked increase in business units choosing the apprenticeship route for skills growth. With people our differentiator, diversity is a key issue: we’ve introduced initiatives in schools and recruitment marketing, giving us 19% female apprentices versus 10% as the national average.
