PrinterOn Corporation is a privately held, Internet-based Business-to-Business e-Commerce solution provider. Headquartered in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, PrinterOn is the parent company of Spicer Corporation, a developer of data-visualisation software.
PrinterOn provides innovative, user-friendly and secure Internet printing and viewing products and solutions. Users of PrinterOn’s products can deliver documents from computers and wireless devices to virtually any printer, anywhere in the world through the Global Printer Directory (GPD) - a list of all registered printers.
PrinterOn’s universal printer driver, PrintWhere, allows users to print data from any application correctly, reliably and on the desired printer.
Business Requirements
PrinterOn was experiencing substantial growth and expected this to continue at an exponential rate. It required an enterprise-wide ERP application that could accommodate the anticipated growth and work towards achieving the company’s business goals and objectives.
PrinterOn Corporation comprised six distinct companies. Each had its own set of books that needed to be incorporated with the ERP application. PrinterOn wanted to continue to utilize Clarify in dealing with its Web customers; therefore, an interface with Clarify was also required.
Due to PrinterOn’s unique condition - a small company experiencing tremendous growth - it was important that the implementation be swift and inexpensive.
The Capgemini Solution
Capgemini was selected to implement a software solution based on Oracle’s ERP suite of applications. The five-person project team comprised experienced specialists for Oracle Applications and Oracle Technology. The team leveraged Capgemini’s Rapid Implementation methodology in order to accommodate PrinterOn’s specific requirements.
The methodology is designed to suit clients requiring an expeditious, single-site implementation, basic functionality and little (or no) customization. DISC (Dynamic Integrated Solution Configurator) was at the core of the methodology as a pre-configured enabler. Developed by Capgemini as a turnkey base for Oracle implementations, DISC allows for some customisation.
In the interest of speed, the project scope and content were discussed and agreed on before a formal contract was drawn. During the implementation, Capgemini:
- held discussions with PrinterOn to confirm what functionality and customisations to include and configured the applications accordingly
- ran a user test to determine if the solution matched user expectations
- conducted integration tests to see if all the pieces of the solution functioned harmoniously
- led a condensed user-training course that mirrored the end-users’ specific requirements.
Capgemini configured the existing application to incorporate all six sets of books for PrinterOn. The development also ensured support for multiple currencies, and suitable interfaces were developed and deployed with Clarify.
PrinterOn’s specific procedures for ordering products would normally have required an expensive configurator application. Capgemini creatively configured the Oracle suite to incorporate this requirement within the standard functionality of the Order Management application. This demonstrated the team’s understanding of PrinterOn’s needs and its ability to deliver the solution within PrinterOn’s financial scope.
After an intensive ten weeks, PrinterOn went live with Oracle’s General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Purchasing and Order Management applications.

The application is fully scalable, integrated, automated and streamlined. It has incorporated many of the manual procedures of the previous system, thereby limiting the risk of error. Consequently, the solution provides increased efficiency for PrinterOn.
Capgemini has implemented and configured a suite of Oracle applications for PrinterOn that not only accommodates the company’s future growth, but will also help carry it forward.
