IT decision-makers in the private and public sector appear to be driving less IT integration in their organisations than in 2006.
SOA is the latest industry approach to IT integration and Steve Jones, Head of SOA for Global Outsourcing at Capgemini and author of Enterprise SOA Adoption Strategies, recommends that IT decision-makers embarking on an SOA project keep their project vision short.
“Some people seem to think that the vision should be a document that includes all the detail around the business case, outline plan and other elements. For me that is the kick-off document and it is something that has a life expectancy of only about three weeks when everyone is on board and you are into the detail. The vision for me is something very clear that says, what we are going to achieve for the business, how will we measure success and what is important to delivery?”
Steve Jones is the author of “Enterprise SOA Adoption Strategies”, a member of the OASIS SOA Reference Model and Open Group business architecture groups and regular presenter at various technology, business and SOA conferences.
Steve is currently working as the Head of SOA and SaaS for Capgemini’s global outsourcing business, working out how SOA can be used to add innovation, deliver value and reduce costs in the 80 percent of IT spend that goes on Business as Usual.
