A joint enterprise between Tube Lines and Capgemini – Tube Lines’ prime IT partner – is working on transforming IT support for 2,500 Tube Lines staff across London, with some remarkable improvements already made.
Tube Lines is the Public Private Partnership which maintains the trains, tracks and stations for three of the busiest London Underground lines - the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly, which together carry almost 2 million passengers a day, 40 per cent of those using the entire tube network. A massive investment programme, involving new trains and refurbished stations, is currently underway.

Behind the scenes, an equally vital transformation in IT support, now half-way to completion, has already produced remarkable results. It is a joint enterprise between Tube Lines and Capgemini, its prime IT partner under a long-term outsourcing contract signed in 2005. In addition to its transformational role, Capgemini’s day-to-day service involves supporting some 2,500 Tube Lines staff at its 70 locations across the capital.
A Gartner audit has confirmed that the current Capgemini service is in the top quartile for quality and the bottom quartile for costs.
Tube Lines and Capgemini are currently working on a technology transformation to match the service transformation that has already been delivered. This involves deploying the latest generation of Microsoft enterprise technology, including the Vista operating system, Windows Server 2008, SharePoint and Office Communications Server.
