Mike Dodsworth of Capgemini picks up “Lifetime Achievement Award” Accolade at the Third Annual NOA Awards

Mike Dodsworth has won the National Outsourcing Association’s award for Lifetime Achievement at the NOA awards ceremony, which took place on the evening of Thursday 12 October 2006 in London.

The awards, which were announced at a glittering ceremony at London’s Radisson Portman Hotel, were hosted by Anthony Hilton, the financial editor of the Evening Standard. Attracting over 350 professionals from the UK’s outsourcing industry, the awards aim to reward organisations for success in outsourcing projects, as well as raising awareness for the importance of best practice in outsourcing. The awards acknowledge achievements in IT outsourcing, Business Process Outsourcing, as well as sector specific achievements in telecommunications, finance, energy and the public sector.

Capgemini’s Mike Dodsworth won the award for his long and distinguished career in outsourcing and his involvement with people. Mike’s demonstration of exemplary people management skills during his career were a key factor in winning the award. Often the people affected by outsourcing contracts are forgotten - they can feel let down and a lost in the formalities of major outsourcing transfers. Mike has shown a commitment to best practice in supporting staff to transition smoothly to their new positions. Outsourcing is often tarnished by rumour or folklore which perpetuates negative perceptions of employee dissatisfaction. Mike has consistently communicated the positives and shown that outsourcing can in fact be a great enabler for employees and can positively boost morale if handled professionally.

Martyn Hart, chairman of the NOA commented: “At the NOA we strive to raise awareness of best practice in the outsourcing industry – the awards are core to this strategy. All winners have ably demonstrated excellence in outsourcing and have highlighted the importance of best practice standards being met in the industry.”

Robert Ingram, head of HR for Capgemini UK, said: “We are thrilled that Mike won the Lifetime Achievement Award. This first ever lifetime achievement award to be made as part of the NOA Awards recognised Mike’s outstanding contribution to the industry over 20 years. More than double the number of entries of previous years had been assessed and this award was the pinnacle of the evening. In particular, it was pleasing to hear the judges commenting on Mike’s long and distinguished career in outsourcing and recognising his exemplary people management skills in helping over 8000 people transfer employer under TUPE.”

Tony Coates, Head of HR for Outsourcing Services, Capgemini, said; “This underlines how people issues remain core to outsourcing. Also it shows that the way we in Capgemini treat people as individuals, openly, honestly and with respect - before, during and after their transition continues to lead the industry. The time of transfer is critical for people, and they may have deep concerns fuelled by rumour and folklore in the press. Mike developed many of the Capgemini TUPE best-practices, set the standards across the industry and as secondary TUPE’s began to emerge, he brought top IT industry outsourcers together to agree principles so that people were not disadvantaged.”

Mike was delighted to receive the award and with his typical humility, wanted to recognise the team effort that had made it possible – certainly within the HR team but also across the OS business and within our clients.
