Strategy, Design & Assessment
Releasing value from your supply chain while creating a platform for the future
In these turbulent and volatile times it is essential that organisations can release true value from across their extended supply chains in a controlled way. This requires a change in ‘mind set’ to challenge and transform the business and the current embedded ways of working.
To do this effectively it is essential that an organisation understand & identify the opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness improvements while understanding the knock on effects across the extended value chains. The changes now, not only support avoiding a major turnaround in the near future but also create the platform to launch your organisation out the other side as the downturn recedes. Therefore the strategies developed today not only have to innovative, they have to be implement able and focused on the right areas of the supply chain. This translation of the ‘what’ into the ‘how’ is now the most critical success factor for the Supply Chain Executive in these turbulent times. We outline a basic four step approach for the Supply Chain Executive:
- Understand your performance and understand the opportunities – Review your supply chain and identify opportunities for improvement , challenge the status quo and break traditional boundaries
- Back to Basics – Stabilise the current supply chain and ensure it is delivering the value across the network
- Define a SC strategy that provides the immediate platform for survival and the future platform for coming out of the downturn

The Benefits of Supply Chain Strategy, Design & Assessment
Taking time to think, identify your opportunities and act at the right time is critical for the success of your organisations overall supply chain. With limited resources and budgets it is essential that organisational effort is translated into organisational benefits in the right areas. Missing the window of opportunity could set the organisation into a downward spiral or present the competition with an opportunity. Therefore reviewing your overall supply chain enables your organisation to:
Understand the potential “size of the prize” and the associated effort to release the value
- Identify the opportunities for improvement
- Prioritise the areas for improvement
- Create options to release the value
- Gain organisational commitment to engage in the transformation
Review and confirm your strategy is fit for purpose in the turbulent and volatile market
Translate your strategy into a detailed design solution therefore:
- Detailing how we will actually do things – challenging traditional boundaries be they functional or organisational
- Deciding where to integrate and where align across the extended value chain
- Outlining how and who will make key decisions
- De-risk the strategy and implementation by thinking through the impact and associated change of the design
- Creating the design blueprint
This allows an organisation to create a “holistic” view of there supply chain and to develop an integrated supply chain transformation approach that targets the right areas of the business to realise the maximum value

2. Supply Chain Strategy Development and Review
We work with you to develop, assess and review your Supply Chain Strategies and how these integrate with and support the direction of the wider enterprise. We also equip you with the processes and mechanisms to continually maintain your strategy and change journey.
3. Operating Model Design and Implementation
We translate your Supply Chain Strategy into practice. We help you interpret and unpick the strategy to understand what it means for the individual ‘building blocks’ and integrated processes across the end-to-end supply chain. We help you think through the implications across all aspects of the model from processes & systems, to assets, financial flows and governance at a macro- and functional level.
4. Supply Chain Capability development
We only refer to success where what we develop with you is sustainable and embedded in the business. In many cases this means leaving behind the knowledge and expertise we have used to develop the Strategy or Operating model with those who need to own and continue to improve it. Our Capability development approach has been hugely successful in building capabilities to support existing and future operating environments
5. Supply Chain Performance Management and KPI’s
We work with you to build performance management into your ongoing management structures and style, setting up KPI’s and measurement to support you in running the business rather than adding on a ‘extra layer’ of management effort.
