Leading UK retailer

The client is a FTSE retailer. Weaknesses in its financial systems were causing problems which were becoming increasingly serious as the business grew.

Capgemini undertook a three-month study into the feasibility of replacing the accounting and finance systems across the international group. The scope of the study included systems evaluation and selection, process redesign, the development of a business case and benefits realisation approach and a transition roadmap. The associated business case was founded on material benefits arising from substantial reductions in local and central support costs.

The study recommended that the existing systems should be replaced by a new ERP-based finance system with an expansion of the Group’s shared services centre in Portugal and an overhaul of finance policies, processes and organisation to conform to a common chart of accounts, process model and organisation structure. Adoption of the recommendations offered substantial benefits from greater efficiency, control and improved financial information
