Information

Putting information back at the heart of your business

For too long companies have not been maximising the benefit that can be generated from the effective exploitation of information. Information is about more than just technology. It’s about aligning business vision with key stakeholders and translating their information needs into technology requirements.

At Capgemini, we have a successful track record of helping companies in both the private and public sector optimise their management of information for maximum business benefit.

The benefits of effective Information handling

From our extensive research, we know that organisations which improve their use of information generate, on average, an improvement in performance of 29% . These benefits typically arise from the following three areas:

Creating a single view of core business information such as customers, products and materials. This creates a range of benefits such as improving levels of service quality, enhanced cross-selling opportunities and improved purchasing leverage

Providing an accurate view of the performance of the business to make improvements to operational effectiveness with greater confidence.

Enhanced sharing of information across boundaries which increases the confidence, and therefore trust, in information as it moves around the organisation

Capgemini’s approach

Capgemini can assist clients with informational issues at any point in their decision making journey, but we believe we can offer our clients the greatest benefit if we engage at the outset. At this critical stage, we can help clients to shape the information challenge and to identify pragmatic, realistic programmes of work to deliver the targeted business outcomes. We also recognise the importance of engaging with stakeholders in order to prepare the client organisation for the changes to come.

Typically we could propose a high-end strategic review focused on four specific deliverables:

  • A business vision statement for the management of information.
  • A business case to demonstrate the value to be gained from tackling the problem.
  • An outline design of what the end solution will look like encompassing both business and technical aspects.
  • A roadmap describing the business and technical changes required to deliver the end solution.

Capgemini capabilities

Our information management consultants have considerable experience of optimising information strategies for clients across many business sectors.

While we provide consultancy in this area, we also deliver on the promise.

Capgemini has strategic alliances with key information management vendors, such as SAP, Oracle and Microsoft.

We can help you assess where your organisation is in terms of its ability to exploit information effectively.

Success Stories

Kent County Council is one of only a few consistently 4* rated Councils. In April 2006, the new Children, Families and Education Directorate (CFE) brought together Education and Children’s Social Services. The aim of the new Directorate was to ensure the delivery of coherent services to children and young people, their families and the communities of Kent.

High quality Management Information is a vital part of managing the business of CFE, and ensuring that it can meet its business objectives and government requirements. Following the re-organisation and the creation of the CFE directorate in April 2006, the Council decided it needed to review the department’s processes and procedures in relation to Management Information.

Capgemini partnered with Kent to review the creation, governance and use of information within the context of meeting the CFE’s current and future strategic and operational objectives. In conducting the review, Capgemini engaged senior stakeholders across the Council to ensure full understanding ensure the recommendations would sustain momentum. At the conclusion of the review, five workstreams were identified as priorities and lead Directors were identified for each of these.

The review delivered a number of key components, including: a diagnosis of where the CFE was in relation to its vision for Management Information across people, process, technology and information; a vision for managing information as it related to the development of children and young people; and an aligned roadmap with clear, actionable projects that will allow the CFE to deliver the desired outcomes.
