Sustainable Business Change
Sustainable Business Change
Realising the benefits of your transformation
Through an economic downturn, our clients do not stop transforming their organisations. They may change the shape of it, refocus it or take the opportunity to launch products more appropriate to the current climate. Or they may accelerate the introduction of technology that will help them survive the recession. But seeing an organisation through significant changes intact, or, better off for them, is no mean feat in any climate.

- Success Stories
Being able to predict precisely how changes will impact an organisation and then knowing how to prepare for, deliver and sustain those changes can be enormously complex. In fact, most organisations fail to reap the expected benefits of organisational changes. In these times, it is ever more important to get it right first time.
Our Business Change approach can identify both short-term and long-term activities capable of returning the greatest benefit with the least disruption to the organisation, based on decades of experience in leading the world’s largest and most complex organisations through transformational change, But not only do we work with you – we leave behind skills and processes to allow you to stay ahead of the curve and make change easier permanently.
The following sections outline:
Benefits of Business Change
Organisations can expect to see multiple benefits from Business Change, including:
- Improved organisational agility – with scalable, repeatable processes and skills that have been transferred to your people
- A reduction in costs across the enterprise of transformation through acceleration of business benefits through quicker, less painful implementation of business and technological changes
- Transparency of capability gaps for investment and improvement
- Clear accountability
- Improved staff morale
Capgemini’s Approach to Business Change
It can sometimes seem relatively straightforward to ‘just implement change’ in response to, or anticipation of, some of these aforementioned contextual changes.
However, two key observations we’ve made over the years are:
- that managing business change is not only about the rational...it’s as much about understanding and influencing the emotional and political sides of managing change; and
- that many organisations have an elasticity to them – in time, they can ‘naturally’ revert back to old ways, and in so doing, diminish any benefits of implementing changes in the first place.
As such, Capgemini’s approach is focused on ensuring the sustainability of change, rooted in a deep understanding of the impact of the proposed change, to anticipate & manage rational, emotional and political dimensions. As such, our approach typically entails:
- working with you to define / clarify the change vision for your organisation;
- rigorously assessing the impacts of the proposed change;
- developing the capacity in your organisation to absorb the change;
- developing the capability needed to drive and sustain the change; and finally,
- supporting you throughout implementation, maintaining a tenacious focus on benefits realisation and sustainability.
Capgemini’s Capability
Beyond the leading edge methodologies and tools that we deploy on Change programmes, we have a broad and deep network of Change experts. This network includes both functional expertise, spanning HR, Finance, Procurement, Systems and Operational change, and sector specialists, holding deep experience in a range of sectors, including Government, Education, Health, Energy & Utilities, Transport, Manufacturing, Telecoms, Media & Entertainment.
For those large-scale, complex and even global change programmes, we are also able to draw on our Global Network of Change Practitioners, who bring deeper insights into country-specific considerations.
With our approach, you can be sure of two things: one, that you’ll get it ‘right first time’, and two, that you’ll be left with a far stronger internal capability to go on embracing, and gaining material advantage, from change.
Success Stories
Here are some of the recent Business Change projects we are most proud of:
Department for Work and Pensions:
We have helped the department manage business change in a range of different scenarios, including the preparation of their UK wide teams to start delivering Employment and Support Allowance, helping people to return to work if they are able, and providing better support for those who are not. Global Consumer Products organisation
A global project where we worked with multinational communities, coordinating the business change activities and de-risking the implementation of a new global operating model and technology platform. We managed communications to audiences with different cultures and languages, and facilitated stakeholder management to increase customer focus in their ways of working.
Transportation
We have worked with this UK transportation organisation over an extended period – from supporting them with their SAP Business Improvement Programme (whose returns are expected to generate in excess of £20m), to supporting their training function in delivering end user training, and also to prepare 300+ customer service centre agents to use a new CRM system working in a more integrated way across the modes of transport and deliver a better customer experience.Water utilities organisation:
We engaged with 300 field staff dispersed across the country, to bring them on board with new mobile ways of working and technologies, and to achieve compliance with new legislation.Government department
We worked with the department’s staff to co-ordinate stakeholder engagement and communications to over 230 locations worldwide in support of a programme to transform the delivery of Corporate Services.Contact our Expert
