This is the eighth edition of the Transport Market Monitor (TMM) by TRANSPOREON and Capgemini Consulting. It outlines developments in European road transport rates and contains the latest figures including the second quarter of 2011. This edition looks at the price and capacity developments since the beginning of the Transport Market Monitor in 2008. It outlines the price increases in Q2 2011 compared to Q1 2011 and the same period one year before. In addition, it takes a closer look at diesel price developments.

Key findings reveal that transport prices increased faster than diesel costs by +7.8% in Q2 2011 as compared to Q1 2011. This has led to a hike in the price index (103.9), the highest since the first edition of TMM in Q1 2008 and a faster rise than the diesel index, which only marked +5.8%. However, doubts about the financial conditions in Europe and the US could result in different seasonal pattern from the last two quarters of the year.

All indices in this report are based on the logistics platform TRANSPOREON, which handles a yearly transport volume (different truck types, mainly FTL and LTL) of more than €2 billion, covering all European countries.
