Capgemini's approach
Capgemini’s approach is collaborative to a level that sometimes surprises our clients.
Front-line consulting
Capgemini’s consultants focus on delivering change with the people that matter – your front-line workers such as geologists, exploitation, production and well development engineers and platform operations personnel. The front-line approach builds employee buy-in from the outset, reducing resistance to change and dramatically improving the sustainability of solutions.
Hothousing
Hothousing is a method used to identify inefficiency in processes, test improvements, measure outcomes and prepare the solutions for mass roll-out, using process improvement techniques related to Lean and SixSigma. It up-skills the workforce to do the work themselves, without the need for a heavy consulting presence.
We have solutions pitched particularly at independent oil companies.
Capgemini’s capabilities
Capgemini’s practical, innovative methods go straight to the areas where performance improvements might be required. We help with:
- Excess rework, low productivity: We work with you to redesign business processes according to best practice, and align them enterprise-wide. With a clear business strategy, resources are allocated in line with true business priorities, and barriers to cross-functional working are broken down.
- Late delivery, cost overruns: Better project management and QC/QA get delivery back on track. Resource management matches people better to roles. Governance frameworks ensure that project scope and changes are in control.
- Poor staff retention: We help your leaders and senior managers strengthen their leadership and communication skills. Better people management improves retention; knowledge management safeguards projects if key people do leave.
- Difficulty in tracking performance: Dashboard type tools allow monitoring and management of performance against business strategy via KPIs. Performance against asset, process and function level strategies can be measured too.
In fact, Capgemini can help address every part of the value chain, from managing your exploration portfolio to field development, reservoir management and asset abandonment.
Success Stories
Petrom
Capgemini enabled Petrom to confirm that Schlumberger’s software products met its requirements for data management and retrieval of upstream data types like seismic, logs, well header, deviations and production volumes. In collaboration with Schlumberger, we then installed and tested these products, migrating data from legacy systems and providing training workshops for data managers. Capgemini also developed an approach for introducing a Master Data Store.
Shell
Shell’s IT function needed to deliver business performance and growth, to achieve continuous operational improvement, to take advantage of new technologies and new sourcing models, and to do all this across a global set of businesses with diverse expectations. Capgemini supported Shell in defining an IT delivery model covering everything from portfolio management and supplier relationship management through to application and infrastructure support. The outcome was a roadmap for driving the IT function to top-quartile performance.
Petoro
Capgemini helped Petoro, the licensee for the Norwegian state’s direct financial interest in petroleum operations, to test the readiness of the various operators for deployment of smart operating practices. The project developed a first-generation diagnostic tool that can be used to assess the maturity of Smart Operations activities within an organisation. Another major output was a repository of leading Smart Operations practices worldwide.
