Distributed thinking

The distribution industry in the UK and across Europe is undergoing a period of great change. Deregulation and the subsequent increase in competitive pressure have created a challenging commercial landscape with tighter operating margins. The growth of email as a method of correspondence has led to a decrease in traditional postal traffic, while at the same time the popularity of internet shopping has increased the amount of parcel traffic.

Capgemini boasts a strong multi-national postal practice with a highly-experienced team of supply chain and logistics experts.

Success Stories

DHL Sweden

DHL needed to organise its administration to create a better, more transparent overview of administrative costs and case-handling. Capgemini built and enhanced a data warehouse and business intelligence (BI) reporting application to monitor DHL’s Nordic activities. Capgemini has also deployed application management services to operate and administer the resultant system. DHL now has a data warehouse that provides major benefits in its daily operational activities. Benefits of the BI solution include a drastic drop in IT costs and significantly better information to support critical decisions.

Deutsche Poste

Deutsche Post AG, part of the world’s largest postal and logistics group, manages mail services in Germany. The company hired Capgemini to retire existing HR systems and replace them with a modern ERP-based platform that leveraged SAP standards and had SAP HR at its heart. The result is the largest HR system in the world. On-time delivery ensured that Deutsche Post AG realised benefits at the earliest opportunity, with significant annual cost savings identified since going live.
