Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced a nine-year, $187 million contract with Capgemini Energy to provide a full suite of network management services.  Lucent will serve as the network services provider with Capgemini Energy, a limited partnership between TXU and Capgemini.  Capgemini Energy is providing business process services and information technology solutions to TXU, with future plans for the partnership to offer similar services to other energy and utility companies.

Under the managed services agreement, Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) will provide Capgemini Energy with a full scope of network consulting, design and managed network services in a multi-equipment vendor environment.  Lucent will provide managed local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) services comprising the planning, engineering, installation and management of data and voice networking, including call centers and private radio and microwave networks.

Under the managed services agreement, Capgemini Energy expects to increase network efficiency and achieve significant cost savings by leveraging Lucent’s extensive experience managing, designing and operating the world’s most complex networks.

As part of the agreement, Lucent will upgrade and deploy a next-generation Voice over IP (VoIP) converged communications infrastructure, enabling Capgemini Energy to operate with increased flexibility and to meet its business requirements.  Lucent will manage and operate Capgemini Energy’s network from one of Lucent’s four Global Network Operations Centers.

“The network management services contract with Lucent will help us contribute to Capgemini Energy’s commitment to better service, improved competitiveness and reduced operating costs,” said Bob Pryor, CEO of Capgemini Energy.  “The agreement with Lucent will also help us provide the same type of services to other energy and utility companies in North America.”

Capgemini Energy joins 39 service providers around the world who are leveraging the expertise of LWS for managing their complex communications systems and for ensuring the quality and reliability of their networks.  Lucent has announced more than $300 million in managed services’ contracts over the last two years.

“This managed services agreement with Capgemini Energy is a significant milestone for us and is further proof that Lucent is fully committed to growing our presence in the enterprise services space,” said Sean J. Dolan, sales vice president for Lucent Technologies.  “We look forward to providing our network consulting and network management expertise to Capgemini Energy.  We see this relationship as an excellent fit between the two organizations expanding the value that is delivered in the enterprise services market.”
