Bruce Power signs IT Outsourcing Agreement Extension with New Horizon System Solutions (entity of the Capgemini Group) until 2018
12 January 2005
TORONTO, January 12, 2005 – New Horizon System Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Capgemini Canada Inc. and part of the Capgemini Group, one of the world’s largest consulting, technology and outsourcing providers, recently signed an extension to its existing outsourcing contract with Bruce Power to provide IT services through until 2018 with an option for a further 6 years. The agreement with Bruce Power, Ontario’s largest independent electricity generator, is effective January 1, 2005. Under this extended agreement, New Horizon will continue to provide infrastructure and network services, data center operations, ERP and custom application management, IT security and disaster recovery services for Bruce Power.
In May 2001, when New Horizon signed the initial deal, Bruce Power was in the midst of assuming the nuclear plant operations for the leased Bruce site from Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and was looking for dependable continuance of IT service. Since then Bruce Power has successfully restarted two nuclear reactors.
An exciting development for Capgemini, this deal reflects the high level of satisfaction that Bruce Power has had over the past 3 years from the Infrastructure Management and Application Management delivery teams in Capgemini’s Toronto Service Delivery Center. Bruce Power continues to demonstrate confidence in Capgemini’s ability to deliver high quality, cost effective IT services in the future.
“I am extremely pleased that our collaborative partnership with Capgemini will continue well into the future,” remarked David Khan, VP, IT and Process Improvement, Bruce Power. “Throughout our relationship, Capgemini has remained constant in its willingness to be a flexible service provider and achieve Bruce Power’s service delivery needs.”
Capgemini’s energy & utility industry practice had a banner year in 2004, with the Bruce Power contract extension coming on the heels of the May 2004, 10-year, $3.5 billion (US) IT and Business Process Outsourcing contract with TXU in the US, as well as the November contract for 10 years and $2 billion (US) with Schneider Electric in France.
“We are excited to end 2004 and begin the New Year with this vote of confidence from Bruce Power about collaborating with Capgemini to unleash the power of IT as a differentiator in a competitive energy market like Ontario,” said Chell Smith, North American CEO of Capgemini. “Bolstered by a proven track record of success and a dedicated team of professionals in Toronto who know the industry issues and competitive landscape, Capgemini looks forward to teaming with Bruce Power to improve IT service levels and lower operating costs for a generation with this contract extension.”
