London tills shrug off credit crisis

IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index has revealed that UK shoppers are spending record amounts online. Anthoula Madden, Vice President, Consumer Products & Retail Team, Capgemini believes the Easter holidays paid dividends for retailers.

IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales IndexThe recent credit crunch has seen shoppers avoid the high street and use online channels to spend record amounts.

Integrated Multi ChannelThe index reveals online consumer spent a total of £13 billion online. Consumers spent more than “50% more in the first quarter of 2008 than they did in the first quarter of 2007.”

The latest figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index show that the future is not all ‘doom and gloom for retailers – yet it underlines that online is an essential channel for retailers to survive in such unstable conditions.”
