Britons increase use of credit and debit cards
According to the World Payments Report 2009 from Capgemini, RBS and EFMA, the usage of credit and debit cards has seen a 5% increase on 2007.

The 2009 World Payments Report from Capgemini, Royal Bank of Scotland and the European Financial Management & Marketing Association claimed the UK is “reaching a peak in the use of cards” with growth rates beginning to flatten out.
Tills in British shops handled £15bn credit and debit card transactions last year, a 5% increase on 2007, making Britain the fourth-largest non-cash market in the world, figures today revealed.
Bertrand Lavayssière, managing director of Capgemini global financial services, said: “Global Transaction Services remains an attractive business even in light of economic conditions. The credit crisis has caused a shift in priorities where clients are seeking to optimise working capital as they face a squeeze in external funding amid tighter credit conditions.”
