Capgemini in the public sector: Making delivery happen
Service Transformation

Capgemini works with Sir David Varney, the Department of Work and Pensions, IDeA and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council to advance UK Service Transformation
Thought Leadership
Capgemini’s latest Benchmark Measurement on EU eGovernment reveals increase in the availability and sophistication of online services across Europe, however take-up still lagging behind.
Thought Leadership
With the need to do 'more with less' Capgemini Consulting reveals how the 'Department of the Future' will help shape future governments.
The UK public sector is under relentless pressure to deliver efficient and transparent citizen services whilst driving down costs and transforming ways of working. Capgemini works at national, regional and local level helping public sector clients address these challenges as they turn policy into reality.
Capgemini has over 40 years’ experience of delivering effective, results-driven services to government and the public sector. We understand and help our clients rise to the challenge of improving management performance and operational efficiency in the face of unique pressures including cuts in public spending, the ongoing drive towards e-government, an escalating benefits bill and the need for greater collaboration between agencies.
Capgemini’s approach
Our innovative technology solutions and renowned collaborative approach to working with clients are delivering results at every level of government and the public sector. We’re the strategic IT services partner to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC); we worked with the UK Border Agency to design its UK Border Force Intelligence Model; we’re supporting the UK’s largest Lean transformation at DWP; and we help local authorities meet their targets for customer-centric service delivery with transformed performance management and common IT platforms.
Capgemini’s capabilities
Our capabilities and experience extend across diverse areas of the public sector:
Defence:
We help the MOD meet the constantly changing requirements of current operations
within tough financial constraints; and we’re developing and procuring
capability to meet the MOD’s wide ranging vision to be ‘A Force for Good in the
World’.
Education and Skills:
The UK
government has allocated some 13% of total government spending to children’s
services and education. Whilst the ambition is there, however, ensuring policy
agenda is delivered is not a straightforward task. Cagpemini is helping a
number of the disparate front-line agencies involved in delivering these
services as they seek to offer a joined-up experience for children and families.
Healthcare
The pace of change and rate of investment in healthcare has been unprecedented.
Both public and patients rightly expect tangible results from increases in
spending and, with the current economic climate, those increases can’t continue.
Capgemini is helping its healthcare clients deliver better outcomes and
customer service faster and more cost effectively through smarter working.
Justice
The stakes are high: failures in operational delivery directly compromise
citizens’ safety, rights or liberties, while the demand to make a step change
in performance and drive systematic improvements is constant. In the face of
finite resources and pressure on existing infrastructure (seen most obviously
in the UK’s
overcrowded prisons) Capgemini delivers alternative solutions in limited
timeframes.
Local and Devolved Government
Capgemini
works with local and devolved governments as they seek to maintain service levels
with reduced government funding. We’re re-engineering performance frameworks,
services, technology platforms and operating models and helping agencies find
ways to improve the way they work together such as in the ambitious move
towards Total Place.
Taxation
With all government departments having to deliver
value for public money, tax agencies in particular (already facing falling tax
receipts around the world) must manage their operations and customer contact
efficiently and cost effectively. That’s the premise of the partnership between
Capgemini and HMRC – and in a tough economic climate, it’s never been more
relevant.
Welfare and Pensions
The Department for Work and Pensions touches the life
of every citizen at some point through the provision of pension or benefit
payment, job-broking and training services. Capgemini is proud to have worked
with DWP continuously over the past 20 years, making a difference to the
efficiency and effectiveness with which the Department delivers its services
and helping it meet the challenges of the current economic climate.
