Global Automotive Practice - Delivering Business and Technology Solutions
To succeed in today’s challenging automotive climate vehicle manufacturers and suppliers know they must develop an intimate understanding of consumers, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and grow margins.
In recent years the European automotive sector has continued to be under increasing pressure from a range of sources. Market growth remains sluggish, driving competitiveness. Consumers are more demanding – wanting more from their vehicles whilst paying less. Traditional market segments are disintegrating in favour of smaller, more specialised niches. The need for legislative and environmental compliance – particularly with regard to recycling and emissions – is driving additional product complexity. Added to this, manufacturers are facing their own internal legacy issues – employee pensions and healthcare costs are increasing, overcapacity is rife and manufacturing footprints often sub-optimal. Stock ratings have been downgraded adding to borrowing costs.
Suppliers to the OEMs also have their share of pressures – acquisitions and mergers continue, and bankruptcy is not uncommon. The ‘move east’ continues. OEM cost pressures are incessant, exacerbated by rising fuel costs and unstable raw material pricing. Competition from low cost, offshore manufacturers is increasing. Traditional cost reduction techniques are showing diminishing returns, forcing organisations to re-assess their strategy and operations.
These issues provide our clients with a particularly challenging business environment.
