What we do in health?

We bring together national thinking with local experience to improve the quality of decision making and to deliver benefits for citizens:

  • Informing national direction. We operate at a national level with the Department of Health in building ownership of policies such as World Class Commissioning and System Management across the NHS.  We led the Innovation and Leadership streams of the Next Stage Review. And we currently work with Connecting for Health, shaping the technical architecture and information governance policies that underpin the National Programme for IT.
  • Delivering World Class Commissioning: With commissioners we jointly meet the challenges of planning, purchasing and managing care pathways. We bring rigour to the use of information and attention to relationships with managers, clinicians and citizens. We develop governance structures for decision making across PCTs and providers - engage clinicians in the design of future services - and deliver data and analytical services to enable the commissioning cycle.
  • Improving the delivery of services. We work with organisations in the diagnosis of their performance challenges. We then design and implement solutions such as the transformation of a community health team, the deployment of lean processes, or improving access to information and patient records.

Our skill is our ability to combine hard rational thinking with an emphasis on building ownership of potential solutions amongst those who will ultimately deliver them.  Our Accelerated Solutions Environment (ASE), a purpose built collaborative space and methodology, is a tangible and visible manifestation of our approach.  We have over ten years experience using the ASE to accelerate the design of solutions for our client’s most complex problems.
  • We find the experts that you need. No one company possesses all of the expertise to tackle every challenge that might emerge. That’s why we consistently build ecosystems of partners in our work – delivering the very best from the market to the NHS. Our partners range from large technology partners like Microsoft, to smaller specialist healthcare players as well as academics and think tanks. Our ecosystem approach means that we can always deliver what is best for the customer; we are even willing to partner with our traditional competitors, such as Accenture on our HMRC ASPIRE contract, to bring the best solution to you.
  • We build capability, not reliance on consultants. We believe that a part of our role in each and every assignment is to transfer skills from our people to yours. Our preference is to work in joint teams as we feel that this enriches the quality of results.  We deploy methods such as hot-housing which are designed to build the skills of your people. For instance with Tesco we ran close to 50 hothouses; they have run around 500 more of their own.
  • We can design, build and run solutions. Some companies specialise in advisory services. Some excel at technology build. Others specialise in running and managing services. Capgemini can and does go all the way through that cycle. Our breadth of capability means that we can deliver against the broadest customer need and that when we advise we’ve got delivery in mind.

We work with most central government departments in the UK and many regional and local ones.  Our work at HMRC Aspire is one of the largest transformational outsourcing deals ever performed; at the DWP we are delivering the largest lean implementation in the UK. 

In the private sector we service 14 out of 15 of the world’s largest car manufacturers. We work for all 5 of the oil and gas ‘super majors’. We helped Vodafone be first in bringing chip and pin to their UK stores, and helped the Association of Train Operating companies design and build the most sophisticated rail reservation system in the world.
