Put information back into CIO role or companies will suffer

Ramesh Harji, Head of Information Exploitation, Capgemini UK comments on how information has been forgotten in corporate strategy.

The Information Opportunity Report 2008CIOs are being urged to consider information at the heart of their corporate strategies. The Information Management Report 2008, found that poor information management was leading to bad decision making, fragmented views of the truth and information islands, with 63% of respondents saying they made critical business decisions without the correct informaiono on a daily basis.

Ramesh Harji, Head of Information Exploitation, Capgemini UKRamesh states, “Leaders need to exhibit the behaviour first. It is up to CIOs to create an information culture, information increases in values the more it is used. We now have a lot of packaged technlogy, which is often an industry standard package, but it doesn’t offer value to an organisation if everyone uses the same package,”

“There has been too much focus on implementation, not on what will they do with the information.” Ramesh concluded.
