Europe Accuses 2 Utilities of Price Fixing

Colette Lewiner, Vice President for Global Energy & Utilities, Capgemini discusses how the European Commission has stepped up its campaign to increase competition in energy markets in France and Germany.

The investigation on price collusion amongst leading suppliers of natural gas is being led by Neeile Kroes, European Commissioner. The aim of the investigation is trying to ensure that energy markets are open following years of control by national operators.

Colette believes that the current charges against of the largest natural gas suppliers shows that the Kroes will not be giving up pursuing measures against big utilities.

Colette Lewiner, Vice President for Global Energy & Utilities, CapgeminiColette said that “the deal struck by energy ministers still had be approved by the European Parliement, which could alter the terms and still make it possible for competition authorities to eventually push through a breakup of some energy companies.”
