What is it Like to be Outsourced?
Keith Burgess
was a programmer/analyst who transferred out of the DfES to Xansa and then to
Capgemini in a secondary TUPE.
“Having already been through an outsourcing deal not involving Capgemini and one which was not an entirely positive experience my initial reaction to another TUPE transfer was one of apprehension and concern for the future.
It was clear from the start however that Capgemini had a well established process for dealing with the transition. Regular group meetings with senior Capgemini management as well as one to one meetings and access to an onsite Capgemini manager reassured us that our concerns would be addressed.
As well as resolving the practical issues the transition team were keen to highlight the positive benefits to joining Capgemini and in particular the opportunities to develop and expand our careers. Despite a certain level of initial scepticism it has proved to be the case. Capgemini is a large organisation but it does not lose sight of its most important asset – its people.
When I transferred to Capgemini I was an analyst programmer working on the DfES account. Since then I have been given a number of opportunities to progress and I am now the Microsoft Competency Centre Manager covering a number of accounts including DfES, Matalan, MOD, Home Office and Ofcom. At all times I have been encouraged and supported, it has never been a case of ‘sink or swim’ and I doubt I would be doing what I do now if we had not moved to Capgemini.
It has overall been a positive experience and a career changing one. I think the biggest testimony to that is that I now feel like a genuine Capgemini employee and not just somebody who came with the contract.”
