Senior BI Consultant

I started working life in corporate finance but in 1999 I decided to shift into IT, specifically SAP. I’ve been involved in SAP BI implementations since 2000 and with the proliferation of the BI functionality, find myself learning all the time.

I joined Capgemini in February 2007 from another consultancy, enticed by (amongst other things) the BI team size; the breadth and variety of role; the width of client base; and the opportunities to work on leading edge BI implementations and functionality. So far, the role has certainly met my expectations and, in many ways, has exceeded them.

My responsibilities range from BI delivery to business development and numerous elements in-between. As well as SAP BI, I have become involved in the wider information management arena – something that’s only possible in organisations as broad and deep as Capgemini.

I have been impressed the most by the quality, knowledge and dedication of the SAP BI team and beyond, as well by as the positive attitude to personal development (such as training), and, of course, by the project opportunities.

Would I recommend joining the Capgemini SAP Solution Centre – emphatically yes!

SAP Project Manager

My career before moving into SAP project management was certainly varied, with management roles in logistics and manufacturing. I even started up a carbon processing plant for Thames Water – not very glamorous!

However, in 1998 I was asked to manage the implementation of SAP across Europe for the manufacturing company I worked for, and have worked with SAP ever since. I spent over four years in New York up to 2004 and over the years have managed version upgrades, full life-cycle implementations and major deployments of new scope and scale.

I joined Capgemini in 2006 and I’m currently managing a small portfolio of SAP projects for a large public sector transport organisation. It’s challenging both politically and technically, as it’s a multi-supplier environment and the focus is on areas of SAP functionality that I hadn’t previously had much experience in. I manage the relationship between these suppliers and the client, as well as the overall delivery and implementation of the projects.

My feet really didn’t touch the ground after joining as I was straight onto the client site, so I’m also expecting this year to be able to get involved in a wider range of activities with the SAP Solution Centre.

Although quite a recent recruit to Capgemini, I am about to take on a couple of reviewees and I’m looking forward to the benefits this role will deliver both to me and to them in terms of career and personal development.

SAP Business Intelligence Consultant

I started my consulting career with Capgemini as a graduate trainee on the Accelerated Technologist Programme (ATP) and have since worked on various exciting projects for large blue chip firms such as Corus, DWP, Centrica and Ofcom. These have involved both business and technology consulting.

I haven’t looked back since starting here. Despite only having very limited BI experience at the start, I have been able to learn and master many of the complexities and intricacies of the technology very quickly. This is largely because the working environment is highly supportive. This is backed up with good career development and training opportunities with considerable effort put into helping me succeed in my career and grow professionally. For example, I feel comfortable at any time to go and speak with some of the most senior people in the company and ask for advice – everyone is approachable. I believe Capgemini truly cares about its people. I for one cannot imagine a better place to work.

On my latest project for a large global fashion retailer I held a key role in the design and delivery of SAP BI solutions that form a key part of the company’s strategic growth plans. I interviewed key decision-makers in order to collect management requirements, developed a number of reports using SAP BI tools and delivered user training sessions at the client’s offices in both London and New York. It’s been encouraging to witness the high levels of client satisfaction. From my perspective, throughout this project I received invaluable and ongoing career growth coaching and mentoring from more experienced colleagues.

Since starting here, I’ve also attended company consulting skills and advanced technical training courses at Capgemini locations in France and Holland and have attained my certification as a SAP BI Consultant.
