Diversity Inititatives

You are in: Who We Are

At Capgemini we recognise that we can always do more to improve our diversity. Policies alone won’t create the change in attitudes and behaviours required; we believe that “many small steps rather than one giant stride” is the way to make progress.

Women’s representation is improving at all levels

In recent years the number of women promoted to leadership positions has increased, this is encouraging and works towards correcting the imbalance as a proportion of our workforce.  This has been achieved by positive action using direct recruitment and internal talent development.

Spotlight on Women in Management

Christine Hodgson, who was once heralded as the UK’s youngest female company director, advocates flexible working both for herself and her team.

Spotlight on Diversity in the UK

Diversity is an integral part of our business and is promoted both through our UK CSR vision and our code of ethics.  As an Employer of ChoiceS, we actively seek new ways to better understand the diverse communities in which we operate.  We have also established strong links with several external organisations such as Business in the Community’s Race for Opportunity, Opportunity Now, the Employers’ Forum on Disability and the Employers’ Forum on Age.

We have set up the following initiatives to further promote diversity:

    • We have appointed 7 Diversity Champions who agreed to proactively co-ordinate and support diversity awareness through all layers of their business unit.
    • We regularly review our Diversity Policy, consulting with the National Works Council, to ensure that it continues to promote best practice. The promotion and performance review submissions for all business units are monitored by ethnicity and gender.
    • Our Consulting and Technology Services businesses have been improving the diversity of its consultants, spearheaded by the CEO Mark Porter and his executive board. This has included recruiting new female VPs and executive consultants; reviewing real or perceived barriers to the development of a more diverse workforce; and encouraging networking and experience sharing.
    • Capgemini belongs to the Employers Forum on Age (EFA) which is working closely with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) particularly regarding the 2006 age discrimination legislation. We also belong to the Employers Forum on Disability.
    • In September 2005 we completed our annual benchmarking exercise with Opportunity Now, a business led campaign that works with employers to realise the contribution of women to the workforce. In January 2006 Capgemini was awarded a silver rating from Opportunity Now in respect of our progress for 2005.
    • Capgemini works closely with Race for Opportunity, an organisation that works with over 180 organisations across the UK, promoting race and diversity in the workplace.
    • Our current employee mix is: Gender: 25.2% female, 74.7% male; Ethnicity: 77.3% White, 15.7% Ethnic minority/other, 6.9% not declared
