The excellence of our people underpins our success, so Learning & Development gets high priority at Capgemini

We go to a lot of trouble to recruit the best people. Once we’ve got them, it makes sense to keep them at the top of their game. That’s why we invest so heavily in talent management. Not only do we have a corporate Learning & Development team: each discipline also has its own dedicated L&D manager. As well as operating three group universities worldwide, we use a wide variety of internal and external training methods to achieve a totally blended approach. We’re proud and confident that we do as much in this area as any of our competitors, if not more. It means that we can provide our clients with the strongest and most highly skilled support possible, and our employees with the most satisfying careers. All our staff are treated equally, whether they are long-standing employees or have just joined us as new recruits or through TUPE transfers.

Benefits from Learning & Development

For our clients, our Learning & Development offerings constantly raise our people’s competence and keep them abreast of the latest developments in their field.

For employees, our Learning & Development offerings are an aid to achieving personal objectives, while also better meeting the company’s needs

For Capgemini, our Learning & Development offerings are a way to retain the best staff, while adding intrinsic value to the business. Constant learning maintains our ability to change – a vital requirement in our business.

Capgemini’s Learning & Development approach

Some fundamental principles govern our approach to Learning & Development. For example, we:

  • cater for different learning styles with a blended approach to learning, incorporating on-the-job training, e-learning, and web-based and classroom-based learning
  • recognise high performers, and create opportunities that will accelerate their development
  • provide development opportunities for everyone

Individual training and development is an integral part of our performance management culture. We help employees identify their development needs and plan how to meet them, whilst allowing them the freedom to take control of their future. We give people the support to learn effectively, and ensure they are given opportunities to apply what they have learned in the workplace.

Capgemini’s Learning & Development capabilities

Capgemini employs a dedicated, specialised Learning & Development Team, consisting of 13.5 full time equivalents (FTEs), which includes a dedicated Learning & Development manager in each discipline.

Our training spend in the UK alone totalled almost £9m, £6m of it going on direct purchasing of external training, in addition to a huge investment in internal classroom training events. We have procurement procedures that ensure best value for money from our Learning & Development spend

Our tools and resources include:

  • global universities in three locations (Les Fontaines in France, Chicago and Hyderabad), which bring people from all over the group together to learn and network
  • well-equipped, dedicated training facilities at national and local levels
  • e-learning facilities giving every one of our employees access to 3,000 courses and personal mentors 24x7
  • external training companies
  • sponsorship of staff on programmes leading to higher degrees and professional qualifications

This combination of resources lets us design appropriate training for all levels and types of staff. Our “talent tree” charts some of the academies that are available to accelerate the development of our staff at different stages of their career.
