Trading in an ethical and socially aware way is essential to Capgemini and our clients

For some time, our Core Principles of Sustainable Procurement have been incorporated in all of our contracts, purchase orders, conditions of order, RFIs, RFPs, and supplier selection and performance procedures. They are a prerequisite for doing business with Capgemini.

Our approach to sustainable procurement has implications, and brings opportunities, for our suppliers. We aim to ensure that our external expenditure complies with all applicable legislation, the UN Global Compact and our own policies, and that it delivers cost-effective, high-quality service to our clients on a sustainable and ethical basis.

We encourage supplier diversity and equality, and aim to give qualified small and minority businesses the opportunity to receive a share of our business.

Our procurement processes address the environmental issues associated with production, consumption and disposal. We favour suppliers who can demonstrate environmentally-sound business practices. Wherever practical, we procure products derived from sustainable resources.

In every procurement transaction, we look to our supply chain to identify products and services that help us achieve our targets for reducing our environmental impact, outlined in our UK Environmental Policy Statement:

Our initiatives include;

  • Using more recycled products, or products with a high recycled content
  • Improving efficiency in the use of finite or scarce resources (such as energy, water, raw materials)
  • Reducing our energy consumption and ensuring energy efficiency
  • Minimising transportation and logistics activity, particularly wasted journeys
  • Reducing travel
  • Reducing waste, and ensuring its proper disposal
  • Protecting biodiversity
  • Minimising other environmental impacts such as noise, water and ground pollution

Where appropriate, our supplier and product selection procedures consider whole life costs.
